In 1954 the foundations were laid for the wonderful mahogany bodied guitar
designs to come over the last five decades. The original "Gold-tops"
are now among the most prized vintage guitars and the ASH Aurum is a modern
day tribute to those origins. Genuine Swietenia Mahogany remains the wood of
choice along with a balanced laminate mahogany/rosewood neck adorned with
pearl inlays. The Aurum is designed for the earthy growl that only P-90s
or humbuckers in real mahogany can offer, but without the ball and chain
neck heel. If you want to go for broke, the Aurum Supreme package can push you
over the top with good things like horsie-glued construction, handwound pickups,
old-growth wood, Tone Pros and 510 hardware. The latest big news is the option of prime Korina/Limba wood on your Aurum body and neck. This stuff is so amazing, it might be a while before I cut more mahogany Aurum blanks!
